The Health Department publishes inspection data and maps. Here is how to find them and what they can and cannot tell you.

Limits of the Data
Complaints depend on who reports, and inspections cover only areas inspectors can reach. Do not read a map as a ranking of good and bad blocks.

What is a Rat Mitigation Zone?
A Rat Mitigation Zone is an area with high levels of rat activity where City agencies focus resources on rats and the conditions that support them. The Health Department publishes data on complaints and rat control in these zones on its Rat Mitigation Zones website. Check that page to see whether an address falls inside one.
How do I report a rat problem in NYC?
Use 311, online or by phone, and give the exact address and where on the property you saw activity. The Health Department cannot inspect without enough location detail, and it can only inspect areas it can reach. If the problem is inside an apartment, basement or backyard, include contact details so an inspector can arrange access.
